Seki Mini Scissors

How small can the very best scissors be? This was the playful challenge of Mr. Hasegawa to his artisans at HASEGAWA CUTLERY CO.,LTD., a manufacturer of edged tools in Seki, Japan’s foremost cutlery-making town. The result: the adorable and remarkably sharp Seki Mini Scissors. They are a true labor of love from a company with a commitment to time-tested craftsmanship and inventive ideas.

Simply pinch lightly to cut cleanly through thread, cloth, or other thin material with ease.

Scissors come with a genuine leather case for convenient portability, and each pair is adorned with a beautiful silk tassel from Tassel Studio MARIMO in Fukuoka Prefecture.

The Seki Mini Scissors fit easily into a bag, pocket, or toolbox. Both practical and stylish, they’re a great backup to shears in a pinch and make for an excellent gift.

Handling Precautions

  • If the scissors get wet, wipe off well to prevent rusting.
  • Forcibly cutting hard objects can cause the blade to engage poorly or damage the blade.
  • Dropping or impacting the product may cause damage.
  • Store in a case after use.
  • The case is made of genuine leather and may stretch slightly. Getting wet with water or sweat may cause the color to fade or stain.
  • Tassels are made of silk, which may fade or discolor due to friction, moisture, or ultraviolet rays.
  • Keep out of reach of infants.

Mini Masu Pincushion

Traditionally used for celebrational sake, Japanese Masu cups have a 1,300-year history. These adorable pincushions were inspired by the elegance and joyousness of Masu cups, but made in miniature by master craftsmen at Ohashi Ryoki in Gifu Prefecture.

Mini Masu Pincushions measure just 15 mm (0.6 in) square and feature sophisticated Japanese dovetail joinery that does not require nails or glue to hold the shape of the box. The smooth hinoki cypress of the box gives off a light, woodsy fragrance.

A high-quality linen woven in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka is used as the fabric of the pincushion, which allows pins and needles to pierce easily without dulling them.

The fabric is carefully hand-dyed from raw fabric, and features natural colors and a rich expression of natural texture.

The pincushion includes a matching sewing pin made by Glass Studio Kinari in Osaka.

The glass top of the sewing pin is finished with a beautiful contrast of transparent and colored glass. The color of the glass top matches with the pincushion.

Handling Precautions

  • The Masu wooden box is made of natural wood, so there may be differences in color, grain, and knots. The linen used for pincushion may have uneven colors and wrinkles resulting from the dyeing process and weather conditions. Please enjoy them as the texture of natural materials.
  • Storage in high temperature and high humidity, direct sunlight, or drying out may cause cracking, yarn, or mold.
  • The sewing pin is handmade, so the size and pattern may vary.
  • The glass top of the sewing pin may come off if you pull too strong.
  • After use, wipe off sweat and grease to prevent rust.
  • The needle tip is sharp and dangerous, so be careful when handling lost needles.
  • Please note that using it for anything other than sewing may cause damage or injury.
  • Keep out of reach of infants.
