Kokeshi Doll Pincushion (Pink)

Out of stock

Kokeshi dolls are representative of traditional wood craft in the northern Tohoku region of Japan. The origin of Kokeshi dolls is that wood craftworkers started carve dolls from wood pieces as local souvenir for Onsen resort.

In the birthplace of Tsugaru Kokeshi, Kuroishi city, Aomori prefecture, “Tsugaru Kokeshi Museum” was established by a local committee to preserve the region's wood crafts and challenge new developments on Kokeshi. With these good intentions, they have succeeded to develop the connections with skilled craftsmen. In cooperation with The Tsugaru Kokeshi Museum, Cohana succeeded in creating our Kokeshi Doll Pincushion.

Out of the eleven different types of Kokeshi dolls, the Tsugaru Kokeshi has the shortest history. That’s why Tsugaru Kokeshi Dolls are open for forward-thinking patterns, paintings and techniques.

For our Kokeshi Doll Pincushion we’ve adopted Tsugaru Kokeshi’s traditional shape and bob hair style, then applied Cohana's feature colors--yellow, pink, green and blue. Inside this palm-sized doll is a pincushion and three sewing needles from Meboso Hachirobei Shoten are included. A magnet is attached to the doll's bottom, which easily picks up fallen needles or pins. Kokeshi Doll Pincushion is the prefect needlework accessory.

Wool pincushion keeps your pins from rusting!

The magnet at the bottom makes picking up needles and pins a cinch!
