Story

Beautiful sewing pins enclosed in a compact cherry-wood box. 30 pins are included, featuring color-coordinated translucent and opaque glass pinheads. Pins are supple yet durable and are manufactured in Hiroshima, a city with a 300-year history of high-quality needle production. Rigorous quality control ensures unified thickness and length of pins and their ability to pierce cloth with ease.

The wooden box is made of cherry wood and was elaborately crafted by artisans of Daiwa Sangyo Co. Ltd. Originally, the company manufactured wooden medicine boxes for local pharmacies, but it has adapted its traditional techniques into crafting high-quality modern wooden products.

A flower-shaped button adorns the clasp. It is crafted from the shell of the black-lip pearl oyster, which has a glossy luster. Kawanishi Town in Nara Prefecture is the largest producer of shell buttons in Japan. TOMOI Co., LTD. was established in this area in 1913. The company continues to respond to various orders with its delicate techniques and experience.

Established in 1970 as a manufacturer of wooden medicine boxes for dispensing medicine, a local industry. The company has developed a variety of wooden products that meet the needs of the times, from tub products and wooden boxes that use traditional techniques, and is pursuing a new way of making wooden products.


Shell Buttons｜TOMOI Co., LTD. ／ Kawanishi Town, Nara
Kawanishi Town, Nara Prefecture is the largest producer of shellfish buttons in Japan, even though it is a land without the sea. The six rivers that flow through the town brought boat transportations from Osaka, and shell button manufacture became an important source of income for people in this town especially during the agriculture off-seasons. Tomoi was founded here in 1913. Their technology, acquired through years of experience in the manufacturing of shell buttons, has won the trust of the global fashion industry.

Handling Precautions

  • Gently wipe the surface with a dry cloth.
  • The lid is designed to fit lightly over the main part. When lifting it up, please be careful not to drop it as it may cause needle spillage or damage.
  • Do not leave in direct sunlight, high temperature, or high humidity. It may cause discoloration, deformation and mold.
  • The glass top of the sewing pin may come off if you pull too strong.
  • After use, wipe off sweat and grease to prevent rust.
  • The needle tip is sharp and dangerous, so be careful when handling lost needles.
  • Please note that using it for anything other than sewing may cause damage or injury.
  • Be careful not to pull too hard on the band with a shell button. The shell button may come off or the band may be torn.
  • The shell button may be damaged by a strong impact.
  • Since the shell button is a natural material, there are individual differences in the shape and texture of the color surface. Please enjoy it as a texture.
